The Institute took good efforts to correct the defects or reduce the handicaps of the
child population by arranging periodical medical check-up, atteneded by eminent
medical personnel. The Institute also availed the free labour of the generous medical
practictioners in the line, who could contribute their expertise, free labour and
material.
Freedom Trust from Chennai came forward initially, to help these people. The
Institute felt that, the rehabilitation of the disabled was a major social problem,
which had to be tackled, the institute devoted its time to identify the needy in all the
villages adopted, and thus 60 persons were selected for necessary assistance:- The
assistance was in the form of counselling education, arranging physio-therapy
programmes, supply of physical aids etc.
A special function was arranged in the institutes premises, when the District
Collector Shrl.K.Rajamanickam, I.A.S., participated and distributed Aids to disabled in
the presence of Dr.Sunder the Director of Freedom Trust; 42 handicapped persons
benefitted. Special follow-up sessions were conducted at the Institutes premises as
well as in the patients localities, on how to use these aids and appliances.
Another program to benefit this section of the people held in colloboration with
Indian Red Cross Society of Tamilnadu Branch was the distribution of aids and
appliances to 25 physically challenged persons from our area.
The third one was arranged by ‘Jeevodaya’ located at Chennai. They came forward
with free supply of tri-cycles to 3 disabled persons.
In connection with the valedictory function organized in collaboration with the
District Federation of Voluntary Organizations, tricycles distributed to physically
challenged persons.
