The ICDS, from its’ inception mainly emphasized on cultivation of women empowerment.

Thus, all our activities right now also are related to this goal only.

Yes. No doubt, the women must properly organize themselves; the forces that threaten the dignity of women are just too powerfull for individuals to tackle. To fight them women need to come together. They need each other’s strength.

First of all, there is need to educate and conscientize. This involves two things. First , we must educate society to greater sensitivity towards women, their issues and their preoccupations; They must be made aware of their dignity as human beings and helped to all gender based injustices.

Secondly, we must promote the economic welfare of women. Welfare measures have certainly a role to play in the upliftment of women. It is necessary to go beyond and address the issues of women’s economic independence.

Thus, with this in mind, the following programs were implemented in the villages one be one and side by side:

• Village core group members training programs conducted in the villages as well as in ICDS premeises at Kelambakkam for nearly 24 times. The participants consisted of village women leaders, Self help group members and potential unemployed, semi skilled, little educated adolescent as well as matured women.
• The following motivational Camps were also organized on the following subjects: these programs were conducted at several times. (i.e.,) Motivation camp for eye surgeries, Leadership camp for sanitary latrine Construction, Youth leadership program, Workers meet for skill development program, Skill development Motivation programs in the villages & Field workers and staff members’ orientation.
• More than 300 potential women members came forward for undergoing relevant skill development programs in Tailoring, Beautician, Embroidery, Computer etc., programs. Only 139 girls were initially trained in two phases:- 96 women attended short period courses in the above skills as per their choices. 43 members undergone Self Employed Tailoring Course for 4 month’s duration. This particular course is Central Govt., affiliated through NSDC, Skill India, PMKVY departments.
• Lot of times spent on preparing the infra structure including building, equipment and other requirements as per their Govt., specification and the photographs may proove this claim.
