Credit Union Promotion
This novel scheme is the back-bone for rural development which helps people to save and conserve money, drained by useless and wasteful expenditures on drinks, smoking, cinema, etc., in an organised way to formulate their own rules and regulations (by-laws) and operated by their elected office bearers.
After saving a considerable amount in Credit Unions, the saved amount is revolved as loan within their members. This system creates a confidence among the members that they can avail their own savings as loan, free of interest, at the time of emergency and thus saves people not to run to money lenders and pawn brokers who lend money on exorbitant interest.
Loan among the members is the first step of achievement in credit union. The little amount thus saved in the credit union in every village will grow in thousands in years and thus the credit union develops an understanding and crediblity in the local banks wherever the credit on account is maintained. Further the saved money can be kept as marginal money and the members can tap income generation programmes.
Women Development
The conditions and state of women here in the villages were not as they required to be. They were neglected in their own houses and in the society and were not treated as equals to men-folks. They didn’t even get equal wages paid to men for the same work what men do.
They were deprived of their fundamental rights and were not allowed to raise their voice against injustice perpetrated on them.
ICDS organised women association (madhar sangam) in every village to unite the women and to made them to realize their condition in the society and to endeavour to redeem themselves from the above state of affairs.
ICDS has thus organises women association in the villages. The women Development Department has formulated action – plans to implement in the villages. Meetings were conducted periodically and ICDS gave training to the office bearers and members of the women associations in various aspects of Community Development.
